  • On Thursday, Jackson Elementary fourth graders distributed 61 donated homemade scarves at Colburn Park—each marked with a warm note to help people in need. The project also served as a social studies lesson while Linda Saugstad, who knitted the scarves, said the activity shows local care.  FOX 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsinites can track the rare northern lights by using tools from the Space Weather Prediction Center (which provide a general forecast for the next two nights and short-term views for up to 90 minutes) and by checking local weather to ensure clear skies; moving away from city lights to high spots like state parks will help if the aurora appears.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Lake Winneconne is restoring 2,500 feet of breakwall along 40 acres of wetland to revive 33 acres lost since 1941—county funds, federal contributions and local donations totaling over $860,000 are supporting the project, and work will finish by the end of November.  94.3 Jack FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers and the state Department of Children and Families announced a new online tool — the Roadmap to Child Care Regulation — to help people start licensed or certified child care programs. The tool offers an online licensing application and replaces paper forms as Wisconsin works to fix its growing child care crisis.  WBAY
  • Brown County parks will be closed to non-hunters during gun deer season from Nov 22 to 30; only those with valid county permits can access areas like Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve, Fort Howard Paper Foundation Wildlife Area, and the Vande Hei Property. The Interpretive Center at Barkhausen and parts of Lily Lake Park will remain open—visitors are advised to wear blaze orange—while trails at the Reforestation Camp will be off limits.  FOX 11
