Good morning, Green Bay. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 30th of October.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Community leaders in Northeast Wisconsin say donation fatigue is a growing concern as the holidays near, with rising costs and a government shutdown adding pressure to local giving. The Salvation Army-Fox Cities campaign has started—local business owner Derron Wilson is collecting funds for Hurricane Melissa relief while fearing that donors may have less to give. FOX 11
- ➤ The 37th annual Give-a-Kid-a-Book campaign kicked off last Wednesday in Green Bay as Friends of the Brown County Library and Breanne LaFleur collected new books for low-income children during the holidays. Donations can be made through Dec. 10 at bank collection boxes and in-store events—each book helps support local families—while the Salvation Army will distribute the books in December. WBAY
- ➤ A farm in Kaukauna has launched Produce With Purpose — a matching donation campaign where each subscription box donated will be matched to help feed families in need. Owner Rick Slager said the program will run through the end of the year as part of the effort to combat the food crisis. WBAY
CULTURE NEWS

- ➤ Since its U.S. arrival in 2002, the emerald ash borer has killed many ash trees the Menominee Tribe needs for traditional basket weaving, a practice that has shaped the tribe's cultural history. Foresters are planting other trees to slow the beetle’s spread — a step taken to help preserve this heritage. Green Bay Press-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin DOT shared four design options for the Mason Street Bridge that include lowering it by over 13 feet — this plan would add bike and pedestrian lanes and change nearby intersections. Community feedback about current traffic concerns and impacts near Howe Elementary School guided the study, and DOT will hold its next update in the fall of 2027. WBAY
- ➤ Several Brown County cities will start enforcing overnight parking bans to help clear snow and ice beginning Nov. 1. Hours vary by city — Ashwaubenon and Allouez ban on-street parking from 2 to 6 a.m. while other municipalities set different times and allow exceptions with city approval. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Green Bay’s Department of Public Works announced that Hinkle Street south of W. Mason Street was closed for utility and pavement reconstruction from Oct. 29 through Nov. 26—officials set up a temporary Right In — Right Out to maintain access for local businesses. NBC 26
- ➤ The Ashwaubenon Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to block an ordinance that would ban camping on village-owned property—citing concerns that the ban might force more people to seek shelter—and approved a plan to work with Brown County Housing and Homeless Coalition to address local homelessness. WBAY
