Community leaders in Northeast Wisconsin say donation fatigue is a growing concern as the holidays near, with rising costs and a government shutdown adding pressure to local giving.

The Salvation Army-Fox Cities campaign has started—local business owner Derron Wilson is collecting funds for Hurricane Melissa relief while fearing that donors may have less to give.

The 37th annual Give-a-Kid-a-Book campaign kicked off last Wednesday in Green Bay as Friends of the Brown County Library and Breanne LaFleur collected new books for low-income children during the holidays.

Donations can be made through Dec. 10 at bank collection boxes and in-store events—each book helps support local families—while the Salvation Army will distribute the books in December.

A farm in Kaukauna has launched Produce With Purpose — a matching donation campaign where each subscription box donated will be matched to help feed families in need.

Owner Rick Slager said the program will run through the end of the year as part of the effort to combat the food crisis.
