COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Green Bay food pantries are seeing more families visit as uncertainty over federal food stamp benefits increases demand. Trinity Lutheran Church serves about 30 families every Tuesday, and the local nonprofit Rooted In Inc.—which runs a pop-up pantry—is asking for more community donations to help meet the growing need.  FOX 11
  • Packers and Fleet Farm launched their Salute to Service campaign Tuesday in the Lambeau Field Atrium. Offensive lineman Darian Kinnard helped start the event and explained how nonprofit H.O.O.A.H. WI supports veterans—focusing on suicide prevention and care.  FOX 11
  • Neighborhoods across Northeast Wisconsin will hold city-wide trick-or-treat events on Friday, October 31 with hours that vary by community. Green Bay will allow trick-or-treating from 4—7 p.m. and local schools, churches, and centers will offer trunk—or-treat options.  NBC 26

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Green Bay school board unanimously approved the 2025—2026 budget on Monday night with a projected $3.5 million deficit to be covered using fund balance—board president James Lyerly expressed concern over this last-resort measure impacting local taxpayers.  WTAQ
  • Fox Valley Technical College and UW–Green Bay announced new transfer agreements for criminal justice and business studies — students in criminal justice can transfer with junior status after a signing on October 23, and business students will have a streamlined path starting in Fall. The deals give many students a cost-effective and quicker way to complete their education.  UW-Green Bay
  • Green Bay School District superintendent Vicki Bayer will retire in June 2026, and the district is searching for a new superintendent to be hired by the end of April. Bayer has filled several roles since joining in 2013 — she became interim superintendent in February 2024 after Claude Tiller resigned.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • The Green Bay board of education accepted superintendent Vicki Bayer’s retirement, effective June 30, 2026—she recommended keeping the deputy position unfilled to save costs. Bayer, who has served in various roles since 2013, said it was an honor to lead the district, and the board will begin interviewing candidates for a new superintendent in March 2026.  WTAQ
