COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Demolition began yesterday for phase one of the Children's Museum expansion as crews removed a pole building next to the museum to clear space for a new facility that will cover 26000 square feet. The planned addition will feature a STEAMworks lab, trades industry training exhibit and traveling gallery, and officials still need $2 million to finish phase one—local businesses and community members are asked to help with funding. - ➤ Campers should book online or by phone for Bay Shore Park and Reforestation Camp Campgrounds since the final night to camp is Saturday, Oct. 25 and the campgrounds close on Sunday, Oct. 26. Officials said water for campsites and showers may be available through October if weather holds. FOX 11

- ➤ Festival Foods is now under new ownership—1939 Group finalized its purchase of Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers on Monday. Todd Schnuck will lead the company that now owns 42 Wisconsin Festival stores and nine Hometown outlets. WNCY
- ➤ Streu’s Pharmacy in Green Bay will shift its focus to long-term care and will stop operating as a public retail pharmacy after November 30 (the owner said gradual changes are underway as falling insurance reimbursements made the current model unsustainable). WBAY

- ➤ At a fraud prevention event on Oct. 16 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, experts said crypto scams have led to over $4.6 million in losses since early 2024 and that scams using crypto ATMs increased by 99%—scammers trick people into turning cash into digital money that goes directly to their criminal wallets. - ➤ Green Bay West High School re-dedicated Del Marcelle Stadium on Oct. 17 after a major renovation funded by a 2022 referendum; the upgraded facility now meets ADA and WIAA standards and features synthetic turf, a renovated track, and a grandstand with over 2,000 seats—providing a modern venue for football games. - ➤ A Change.org petition is circulating to reinstate Niko Sila, a Green Bay East High School football coach who was placed on administrative leave over recent circumstances. The school district confirmed his leave on Monday but did not provide further comments, citing it as a personnel matter. WBAY

- ➤ Visitors in northeast Wisconsin are flocking to parks to see leaves at or near peak with bright fall colors like red & orange that are expected to remain vibrant over the next week or two.
