COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity hosted a Rock the Block event on Friday in Green Bay - 13 new families previewed their new homes built with the help of 370 volunteers who spent 6,500 hours; the homes are available with a 0% interest mortgage and city-supported sponsorship. The project marks the organization reaching a milestone in supporting local housing needs.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Brown County Board member requested a demolition permit for the vacant Bank Mutual branch at 201 N. Monroe Ave. in downtown Green Bay to convert it into a parking lot—this proposal will be reviewed on Oct. 7 at 5:15 p.m. by the Planning, Development and Transportation Committee.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Governor Tony Evers signed a law on Oct. 3 that makes it a felony to distribute sexually explicit deepfakes without consent, and the law takes effect today with violators facing up to 3 1/2 years in prison—aiming to protect privacy as artificial intelligence creates misleading content.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • In Green Bay and across the state, dentists raised concerns after Delta Dental bought Cherry Tree Dental locations at the end of June—this move ties practices to one insurer and may limit patient care and provider choice. The state is gathering public comments on the restructuring and will decide on Oct. 10.  WTAQ
  • Dentists in Wisconsin expressed concern after Delta Dental purchased Cherry Tree Dental, including one in Green Bay, linking its dental insurance with practice ownership — they worry this consolidation may limit patient choice and hurt dental care.
