CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Desmond Waukau Jr. was sentenced on Sept. 5 to over three years in prison for a fatal one-vehicle crash on State 47 in 2024 that killed his cousin—he admitted to speeding and not pulling over when police lights appeared. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ A competency exam was ordered Friday for Ji-Gwe-Mko Layton—an 18-year-old who admitted to killing a 60-year-old man on Highway 172 after saying he feared the man would rob his home while he worked—and exam results will be reviewed at a hearing on Oct. 14. WNCY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. John's Ministries will request a permit change to expand its women's shelter capacity to 70 and remove restrictions that limit operations to Nov. 1 through April 30—this change will help the organization handle the rising homelessness in Green Bay. The nonprofit expects the amended permit to come before the Plan Commission on Sept. 8 and, if approved, the City Council on Sept. 16. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Two Wisconsin lawmakers introduced the Go Pack Go Act to ensure every Wisconsinite can watch Packers games even in counties that may miss local broadcasts. The bill would require cable and satellite providers to offer Wisconsin broadcast programming for nearly 415,000 households in 13 counties — keeping local viewers connected to news and sports. WTAQ
