Good morning, Green Bay. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 21st of August.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A corpse found at High Cliff State Park in 2021 showed a gap in the law when charges against John Andrews were dropped because they were filed after the six-year limit. Lawmakers now propose that the statute of limitations start when a body is found—this change will not affect Andrews but may prevent similar problems in the future.  FOX 11
  • The Brown County Sheriff’s Office unveiled a new monument honoring retired members on August 19—recognizing their years of service. The wall was paid for by the department’s Benevolent Association and will have additional names added each spring.  WTAQ
  • State Rep. Ben Franklin will introduce a bill this fall to codify 31 December 2029 as the official decommissioning date for Green Bay Correctional Institution, which has long been criticized for its poor conditions. The bill will require the Department of Corrections to meet defined milestones — including asset inventory, inmate transfers, and staffing transitions — as part of the closure process.  WTAQ
  • A public online meeting is set for Monday, Aug 25 at 5 p.m. to discuss safety improvements at seven intersections in Green Bay—six on West Mason Street and one on Ashland Avenue.  FOX 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bellin and Children's Wisconsin will open the new Emplify Health Children and Adolescent Center in Ashwaubenon on Aug. 26 to offer care for infants to young adults with 21 specialties. The center — which includes features like a life skills apartment, sensory room and the region's first EOS machine — will improve access to care for local families.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
