Good morning, Green Bay. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 15th of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A group of West De Pere middle school students is hosting the second annual Lemon Market—an event that supports children fighting cancer and local families—with funds raised from lemonade, handmade items and treats. It will continue today from 12 to 6 p.m. at 2125 American Boulevard to help benefit Children's Wisconsin, Ronald McDonald House and local families in need.  FOX 11

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Department of Natural Resources will step up patrols and safety education after 25 people died in ATV and UTV crashes from Jan 1 to July 28, with most fatalities linked to not wearing helmets and alcohol use — putting the state on track to top last year's 40 deaths.  NBC 26
  • Firefighters contained a house fire on Wednesday night around 9 p.m. on Agatha Christie Avenue in Ledgeview—no one was injured and neighbors have rallied to support the family.  NBC 26

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay and Service League of Green Bay co-hosted the second One Stop School Shop event today at the UW-Green Bay Kress Events Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It served about 3,700 students by providing backpacks+ school supplies to pre-registered families.  UW-Green Bay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Green Bay Conservation Corps secured a $395,162 AmeriCorps grant for one fiscal year starting September 1 but received less money than expected, so the city must cover nearly $141,000 of extra costs while canceling plans for a new Community Corps. The City Council will decide on the grant on August 19 and officials may hire part-time workers for local habitat projects — an effort to offset a $57,000 gap.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Green Bay announced a new partnership with CityWise Software LLC to create a free searchable online rental housing database that will list over 90% of available units. The platform will help residents find homes and give property owners more visibility—Mayor Eric Genrich said it is part of the city’s effort to ease the housing shortage.  Green Bay News Network
