CRIME NEWS

  • Green Bay authorities charged 40-year-old Joel Pagan-Garcia with murder for the November 3 killing of Carlos Otero-Aviles on Western Avenue & 41-year-old Christian Rivera-Pica, charged Tuesday, denied involvement & the shooting took place during a party at an apartment complex parking lot.  94.3 Jack FM
  • Formal charges were filed against two suspects in the West Side murder of Carlos Otero-Aviles on November 3 — Joel Pagan-Garcia was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and appeared in court on July 29 while Christian Rivera-Pica was charged Tuesday after phone GPS records placed him at the scene despite his claim of buying beer.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Howard-Suamico School District officials gave away free school supplies including backpacks, socks & underwear to help students and families in need. The annual event hosted by GivingTree relied on local volunteer support and community generosity.  WBAY
  • Mark Murphy, former Packers President and CEO, was named UW-Green Bay’s inaugural Executive in Residence with an office at the Kress Events Center Athletics offices effective August 13—he will boost Phoenix Athletics’ Division I programs by building partnerships and mentoring coaches.  UW-Green Bay
  • St. Norbert College in De Pere hosted area high school counselors yesterday for student-led tours and a free lunch — showcasing its top-rated cafeteria — with the goal of encouraging local students to stay close. The college said its improved campus facilities are meant to help counter the enrollment challenges seen across colleges.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Green Bay’s Parking Division proposed raising parking fees and citation fines, and the Improvement and Services Committee unanimously recommended the change on Aug. 13. City Council will decide on Aug. 19, and if approved, new rates (meter fees will go from $1 to $1.25 and citation fines will increase) will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026 (the move comes as costs rise and parking use drops).  Green Bay Press-Gazette

  • Brown County Public Health is tracking measles spread from Oconto County and has set up plans—holding a free vaccination clinic on August 21 from 3-5:30 p.m. at east and west Boys and Girls Clubs—to help protect local children.  94.3 Jack FM
