- ➤ State officials deny any wrongdoing in the cellmate hate crime that killed inmate Micah Laureano, who was strangled by Jackson Vogel on Aug. 27, 2024—after his mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging indifference to his safety. WNCY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay city staff is reviewing a new plan for the former Associated Bank parking lot on N. Monroe Avenue. The three-phase proposal (with 24 townhomes, retail space, and 160 apartments, plus community features like a dog park and urban plaza) expects a development agreement by year-end and plans to start phase one in Spring 2026 with full completion by 2028. 94.3 Jack FM
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former Packers receiver Billy Howton, known for scoring the team’s first receiving touchdown at Lambeau Field in 1957, died on Aug 4 in Houston at 95—he set the team’s single-game receiving yard record with 257 yards and was inducted into the Packer Hall of Fame in 1974—his pioneering career remains a high point in Green Bay’s sports history. - ➤ The Milwaukee Brewers have commissioned a new mural by local artist Andrew Linskens on the back of the Hurckman Mechanical building, visible from Pearl Street near the Neville Public Museum. The blue and gold artwork featuring the Brewers’ ball glove logo and Barrelman mascot will be finished by the end of the month — and the team will hold an official unveiling upon completion. WTAQ
