Good morning, Green Bay.

Silver Birch Ranch, a Christian camp in White Lake, reported that on Friday, July 25 at about 1:15 p.m. a teenage camper drowned while swimming in the designated area and despite quick lifeguard and emergency action he was pronounced dead at the scene—his family was notified through their church.

Laurie Radke, the president and CEO of the Greater Green Bay Chamber, will step down at the end of August after 14 years in the role—she led a rebrand and built membership that united local business leaders.

She said her time had come as she leaves a legacy of a strategic plan that set the chamber up for future success—ensuring a smooth transition for the next leader.

Police officers from De Pere, Ashwaubenon and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 12:57 a.m. call reporting a man with a rifle at the Perkofski Boat Launch near the Brown County Fairgrounds and shot him after he raised his weapon during negotiations—life-saving efforts failed and investigators from the Wisconsin DOJ and other agencies are reviewing the case.

The Green Bay Police and Fire Commission voted on July 22 to approve four changes to the recruitment process to fill 15 vacant patrol officer positions and plan for seven more openings due to upcoming retirements.

The changes—eliminating in-person interviews, lowering college credit requirements, adding an online written exam, and shortening the review time—will be implemented in August.
