Good morning, Green Bay.

Green Bay welcomes 3,200 youth bowlers from across the country for the Junior Gold Championships—held for the first time in our backyard—and eight local bowling centers will host the week-long event that began on July 11 and will finish Saturday with nearly $500,000 in scholarship prizes.

James VanderLeest, 21, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide after two-year-old Leo Escalante died on June 22 on Green Bay’s east side — police say his injuries did not match a fall down the stairs, a hearing is set for Aug 14, and his father was also arrested.

Former bank official Amy Reid was convicted of bank fraud for using p-cards to charge about $412,000 in personal expenses and will be sentenced Oct.

16—she faces up to 30 years in prison, a $1 million fine, and $411,923 in restitution.

Green Bay’s NFL Draft in April boosted Brown County’s economy with a $79.9M impact and generated $104.7M statewide as about 600,000 people attended the three-day event—far exceeding original projections, though some local businesses noted lower than expected post-event traffic.

Local legislators in Green Bay introduced a bill to restore $1.9 million to the Veteran Housing and Recovery Program—funding that will keep a Bellevue facility from closing by the end of September.
