- ➤ At a Parks Committee meeting on July 9, officials presented renderings for The Shipyard park improvements—which include a dog park, playground, beach volleyball courts and a concert space—and noted the designs may change as the consultant finalizes plans. - ➤ The suspect in the death of a 2-year-old, James Vanderleest—21, who faced bail jumping charges after his June 22 arrest—appeared in court on Wednesday and had his preliminary hearing postponed to July 16 because he did not have an attorney while his father, also arrested in the case, is set to return to court on July 17. - ➤ On July 8, a 46-year-old woman named Jerilyn Soto carjacked a Prevea Health shuttle van at knifepoint from an employee at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital and was arrested in Chicago on July 9; she now faces felony charges for carjacking while possessing a weapon and armed robbery. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nature's Way, a local maker of dietary supplements, unveiled a $12 million geothermal project at its Green Bay facility on July 9 to heat and cool the building using the Earth's natural temperature. - ➤ Wisconsin first responders from our area were deployed to central Texas after flash flooding on July 4 overwhelmed the Guadalupe River — the event resulted in over 100 deaths and at least 160 people missing.
