Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 4th of July.
Good morning, Green Bay.
A local couple from Door County bought the old Sal's Foods building in Allouez to reopen a neighborhood grocery store that will serve organic groceries, produce, wine, and beer.
They expect the store to open by late October or early November — planning to hire 24 people initially and expand to up to 50 to meet community needs.
Developers of the new mixed-income apartment complex The Fort at The Railyard in downtown Green Bay fell behind on payments and owe local subcontractors over $1 million—five local businesses have filed liens while Mayor Genrich’s office investigates and an attorney has filed a notice of intent if payment is not made within 30 days.
The state budget has set aside $20 million to expand the Port of Green Bay by removing downtown coal piles so that the full project can finish at least five years earlier and at a lower cost.
Brown County has already received about $33 million in grants to ready the north end while the city may chip in up to $2.2 million to cover any funding gaps — the move is expected to boost local economic growth.
