EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay Area Public Schools launched their free Summer Meals Program at Joannes Park on June 11 to offer healthy meals for students 18 and under—no sign-ups or income checks are needed. The federally funded program will run through August 15 to help families access balanced options—supporting local kids during the break. WNCY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jim Ridderbush was chosen Tuesday to fill the District 8 vacancy on the common council after Chris Wery resigned after more than 20 years of service—he works as a labor liaison at JBS and will serve through April 2026. WTAQ
- ➤ The Green Bay Common Council approved funding for a three-phase redevelopment of the more than 30-year-old Joannes Aquatic Center with a total cost of $11.4 million—phase one, costing over $2.2 million, will begin in fall while water slides will not open until July due to separate stabilization work. - ➤ Green Bay’s city council approved Tuesday night to provide up to $2.2 million for a new asphalt slab at Fox River Terminal — a step needed to clear coal piles and free up space for salt storage. Brown County and C. Reiss Company reached a deal to move the coal to the former Pulliam Power Plant site while state and federal grants will cover the rest of the $30 million project. WNCY
- ➤ Green Bay officials denied license renewals for seven massage establishments last Tuesday based on police recommendations linking some businesses to prostitution and illegal advertising—four of the denials came from Military Avenue. Affected businesses will be mailed notices and may appeal their decisions before the city council. WNCY
