  • Ruby’s Pantry set up a pop-up food pantry at Central Church on Monday at 5:30 to offer families a large bundle of groceries for $25 to help stretch their monthly food budgets. The event was available to everyone while supplies lasted.  WBAY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, a house at 2009 Preble Avenue in Green Bay caught fire causing $50,000 in damage and leaving one child and one adult without a home — firefighters quickly put out the blaze, rescued the family’s pet, and the cause is under investigation.  WeAreGreenBay.com

  • The Green Bay Public Market will open in 2026 after increased project costs and construction delays forced On Broadway Inc. to postpone its original plan for the 2025 NFL Draft; the nonprofit is updating building plans — balancing rising steel prices and tariff impacts — while launching a capital campaign to cover expenses.  WBAY

  • Owen Backus of Green Bay was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the brutal killing of Michael Hubbard on Dec. 9 at a Western Ave house—Judge Marc Hammer ruled that his claim of self-defense was not valid.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Green Bay and the Office of Violence Prevention launched the Neighbors Together for Western initiative to make the Western Avenue neighborhood safer and more welcoming. A summer block party will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Western and Perkins + residents are invited to join the celebration.  WBAY
  • A federal judge ruling has reinstated AmeriCorps funding, allowing the Green Bay Conservation Corps to resume near full operations—down from 10 members after funding cuts—and the group plans to hire new staff as it awaits guidance from AmeriCorps and Serve Wisconsin.  WNCY

  • A new home at 929 N. Broadway was unveiled yesterday to help ease the affordable housing shortage in Green Bay. High school students from Green Bay Area Public School District gained hands-on construction experience while Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and Forward Community Investments provided financing.  FOX 11
