- ➤ The Wisconsin Humane Society lowered dog adoption fees to fight shelter overcrowding and now charges $75 for dogs older than six months and $25 for benchwarmer dogs through June 11—helping clear room for nearly 400 dogs at its Green Bay and other shelters. - ➤ Officials announced that registration is now open for the 13th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field on Saturday, September 20, with an expected 2,500 participants set to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. - ➤ Mulva Cultural Center in De Pere is hosting its month-long Atrium Live Music Series in June with free concerts on Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; the series kicked off on June 5th and will feature local and regional acts—concluding with a bonus show on June 28th. - ➤ Today 18 students received their diplomas from the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Green Bay campus after finishing a four-year medical degree in three, a program developed with local schools in 2014. One graduate said she felt both nervous and excited— a campus dean said the program aims to return doctors to rural communities. WBAY
- ➤ Registration is now open for the Brown County Library’s summer reading program, offering early literacy sessions for ages 0-4 and reading activities for kids, tweens, teens and adults — a chance to track reading days and win prizes — as the library encourages summer reading skills. - ➤ Wisconsin has already reached its yearly average number of tornadoes before June is over, as severe weather appears earlier and in unexpected places, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kurt Kotenberg.
