- ➤ Multiple Wisconsin Humane Society shelters, including the Green Bay location, lowered dog adoption fees to help with a growing number of dogs. Fees are now $75 for dogs over 6 months old and $25 for long-term shelter dogs, with the promotion ending June 11—officials say the move is meant to ease crowding at kennels caring for nearly 400 dogs. - ➤ Jackson Vogel, a Green Bay Correctional Institution inmate, was convicted Wednesday for first-degree intentional homicide as a hate crime when he choked his cellmate Micah Laureano over race and sexual preference—he faces a mandatory life prison term when sentenced on June 27. WTAQ
- ➤ A Brown County jury convicted Jackson Vogel on June 4 for fatally strangling his cellmate Micah Laureano in a hate crime at Green Bay Correctional—Vogel is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on June 27 at 8:30 a.m. Green Bay Press-Gazette

- ➤ Sixteen candidates applied for the open seat on the Green Bay school board after former member Kou Lee resigned on May 8 amid questions about his residency. The board will review the applications on Monday—then interview candidates on June 16 for the appointee who will serve until the term ends in April. WNCY

- ➤ Brown County and C. Reiss Company have reached a tentative deal to move the 125-year-old coal piles along the Fox River two miles north to the former Pulliam Power Plant site—county board members will vote on the plan today at 7:00 p.m.—and if approved, the county will secure a $15 million grant to keep key port operations funded. 94.3 Jack FM

- ➤ Emplify Health by Bellin and Marquette University announced the launch of the Resch Mental Health Initiative, a seven-year pilot that will recruit 25 students from Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula to earn a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling with full tuition and a stipend. The program will provide paid clinical training and a pathway to employment and is expected to serve about 26,000 clients per year—addressing the mental health professional shortage in the region.
