CRIME NEWS

  • The trial began Monday for Jackson Vogel, a 25-year-old inmate accused of killing his cellmate with hate crime enhancers at Green Bay Correctional Institution—he faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted following a four-day trial.  WNCY
  • The Green Bay Metro Fire Department warns residents about a scam in which callers pose as fire inspectors and request payment for fake inspections — officials remind citizens that fire workers always wear uniforms and arrive in marked GBMFD vehicles and to report suspicious calls to police.  WTAQ
  • Jackson Vogel’s trial began on May 21 in Brown County court—he is accused of killing his Green Bay Correctional Institution cellmate, Micah Laureano on August 27 with hate crime enhancers—and if convicted he will face a mandatory life sentence while Laureano’s mother filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging negligent inmate housing.  94.3 Jack FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brown County Sheriff Todd Delain said in a letter that misinformation about K-9 Dorian is false and that the dog, examined on May 29, is healthy for duty. He explained that after the previous handler left for another agency, the department is transitioning Dorian to a new handler—emphasizing that Brown County K-9s are not for sale.  WeAreGreenBay.com
  • Preliminary work has started on reconstructing Packerland Drive near Mason Street after high crash rates led to the project. Beginning June 9, northbound lanes will be closed and only one southbound lane open, with all lanes closed on June 11 for sewer work—traffic improvements including a new multi-lane roundabout are expected to finish by mid or late August.  WNCY
  • Brown County Parks will host the grand opening of the H.J. DeBaker Eagles Nest Park & Boat Launch at 3265 Nicolet Drive today at 11:00 a.m. County Executive Troy Streckenbach and Parks Director Matt Kriese will mark the event with new facilities that include four launch lanes, 71 boat trailer parking stalls, 19 vehicle spots, and a small boat wash area to improve access to the lower bay.  WBAY
