COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new limestone portage was built at Kaukauna Lock #2 to help kayakers bypass steep drops along Fox River—each staircase cost about $10,000 and officials plan to add 31 portages for safer access.  94.3 Jack FM
  • The Greater Green Bay YMCA west side facility in Howard held its groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for a $9M renovation and expansion project that will update workout and play spaces, add a six-lane lap pool and a 7,500 sqft gym including pickleball and therapy space, with work finishing by early 2027.  94.3 Jack FM
  • A groundbreaking ceremony kicked off at 10 a.m. Thursday at the West Side YMCA in Howard, marking the start of renovations that added a six-lane lap pool, additional pickleball courts, updated locker rooms and a kids zone—work is expected to complete early next year.  WBAY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cornerstone Community Center (CCC) is expanding its facility with a new ice sheet and 3,000 more seats as part of its $23 million Grow the ‘Stone campaign to boost local economic impact. Since 2019, $20 million has been raised to improve sports tourism and offer families more recreation opportunities.  Green Bay News Network

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UW‑Green Bay partners with local school districts to launch the Early Educator Collective for early‑career teachers. The coaching program will offer monthly virtual sessions and individual support starting in fall 2026 to build resilience and career skills.  UW-Green Bay
  • Luxembourg-Casco High School senior Annie Annoye was surprised today with a $10,000 Brian LaViolette Scholarship presented by family, friends, and education officials from the Greater Green Bay Chamber. The award supports college-bound students and continues a 33-year legacy of the foundation.  UW-Green Bay
  • UW-Green Bay will launch its first coaching program for new teachers this fall, offering monthly virtual sessions and two individual coaching appointments to build support networks with experienced mentors — a collaborative response to rising teacher turnover.  UW-Green Bay
  • The UW System awarded bachelor’s degrees to incarcerated students at Oakhill and Stanley Correctional Institutions on Monday for the first time since 1975 through its Prison Education Initiative — launched in 2022 with a $5.7 million grant that has helped over 200 students earn credentials for post-release work.  UW-Green Bay

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joannes Stadium in Joannes Park now features brand-new batting cages built for ($35,000) with support from local businesses and teams. The Blue Ribbons, Green Bay East and Preble High will use the cages as they open their season Saturday at 4 p.m.  FOX 11
  • UWGB cross-country coach Mike Kline, preparing for his 40th season this fall, is celebrated for his dedication to student-athletes. He starts his day at 4:26 a.m. and works late into the evening (from practice to study sessions), making him a key figure on campus.  UW-Green Bay
