- ➤ CASA of Brown County volunteers helped abused children by visiting them each week and writing court reports, with Sly Chou being sworn in on May 5 to promise support and explain the court system—she is one of 117 advocates who work to protect and listen to these kids. The nonprofit also runs a program that pairs young adults exiting foster care with mentors—teaching them life skills and helping them become independent. Green Bay Press-Gazette

- ➤ Jackson Vogel, the inmate who allegedly killed his cellmate at the Green Bay Correctional Institution, withdrew his insanity plea on May 21—his trial for first-degree intentional homicide, with a double panel of about 90 jurors, is set to begin on June 2. FOX 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Edison Middle School in Green Bay held a ribbon‐cutting ceremony yesterday to open a new outdoor learning center (featuring benches, a greenhouse for growing native plants, a kiosk to identify plants, and newly planted trees used for outdoor lessons). The project took two years to complete and was funded by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and American Transmission Company. FOX 11
- ➤ A few local high school seniors became the first in their families to commit to college when nonprofit CollegeReady hosted an end-of-school-year celebration on Wednesday—students from grades 6 to 12 were recognized and seniors signed letters of intent to attend college. - ➤ Volunteers were sworn in as court-appointed special advocates (CASA) for children at Brown County Courthouse on May 5 and took an oath to support children who have suffered abuse or neglect. - ➤ EAGLE III helicopters in Green Bay will begin carrying whole blood on Monday (May 26th) due to a new partnership with HSHS St. Vincent Hospital. Six trained nurses will fly with each helicopter to provide trauma care that boosts patient survival and cuts the need for extra transfusions. WNCY
