COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A peregrine falcon naming contest drew 22,000 votes, triple the record set in 2023. The contest at the WPS Weston power plant in Rothschild celebrated local media with punny names for four chicks.  WBAY
  • East High students from the Fine Arts Institute raised money and collected food donations during their concert on Wednesday, May 13, at East High School to support Eats for East (a pantry serving about 40 families). A band will perform next Wednesday, May 20, to continue support for the pantry.  WBAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Luke Combs will perform back-to-back concerts at Lambeau Field on Friday and Saturday. Forecasts show mid-70s highs with a slight chance of light rain & cool overnight lows; parking opens at 2:45 p.m. ahead of shows beginning at 5:20 p.m.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Green Bay high school students built a two-story home at 158 N. Maple Avenue through the Bridges Construction and Renovation program—a partnership among local schools, NeighborWorks Green Bay and NWTC that earned school and college credit. Next year, they will build a new home at 143 Cleveland Street.  FOX 11
  • UW-Green Bay graduate Nathan Halbach built strong connections on campus and as president of the Student Government Association, which helped him choose a career in finance and community leadership. He encourages new students to get involved as he prepares to graduate this week.  UW-Green Bay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Green Bay Police Department held a ceremony Wednesday during National Police Week to honor fallen officers. The event featured a presentation of colors, an invocation, and recognition of Officer George Antone Motquin—Green Bay’s only officer killed in the line of duty in 1951.  WTAQ
  • Bids for a 425-foot wildlife viewing platform at Bay Beach Amusement Park came in at $5M and $5.2M, which exceeds the budget available from a $2.4M grant and earlier borrowed funds. City officials said they are reviewing funding options as the project remains in limbo.  FOX 11
  • Interstate I-43 closed from Atkinson Drive to Webster Ave on May 13 after a law enforcement activity blocked Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge (drivers were advised to use State 172 as a detour).  Green Bay Press-Gazette
