CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The All-American Rejects—known for their early 2000s hits like 'Swing Swing' and 'Move Along'—will perform a pop-up concert on the UW-Green Bay campus tonight at Phoenix Park. Local bands Ditch the Hubcap, Saintsonne, and The Coves will open the show, and admission is $5 or a non-perishable food donation for the Campus Cupboard. FOX 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will award 1,338 graduates at two ceremonies scheduled for Saturday — one at 9:30 a.m. at the Kress Events Center and another at 2 p.m. This large class, which marks a 21.6% increase over last spring and includes many first-generation students, is expected to strengthen the regional workforce. - ➤ Lakeshore College and UW-Green Bay will launch a new program this fall that lets students earn an associate degree at Lakeshore's Cleveland Campus or UW-Green Bay's Sheboygan Campus before transferring to complete a bachelor’s degree. The partnership targets nursing and teaching careers in high demand (Lakeshore College President Paul Carlsen said it addresses urgent local workforce needs). UW-Green Bay
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay officials reviewed plans to turn a former industrial site on South Broadway into 93 affordable housing units & a new fire station that will replace two outdated stations. The project awaits final agreements and legal approvals and could see demolition begin this summer with construction starting by the end of 2025. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Brown County officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the corner of Scheuring Rd. and Packerland Dr. to start the South Bridge Connector project—a new bypass route over the Fox River between Interstates 41 and 43 serving Lawrence, De Pere and Ledgeview that is expected to be finished by Fall. - ➤ The village of Howard passed an ordinance on Monday night to ban all wildlife feeding on private property and in village parks to help control the deer population—residents had complained about deer in local neighborhoods. Those who break the rule will face fines between $500 and $1,000. WTAQ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On May 13, Green Bay received a $250,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support health and fairness in our city. Four local nonprofits, Wello, We All Rise & COMSA & Casa ALBA will share the funds. WNCY
