- ➤ Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost and called Father Bob by local priests, was elected and his ties to Northeast Wisconsin were noted by leaders in De Pere—who recall his work with local Catholic communities. - ➤ Teacher Lisa Van Hefty in Mishicot was named the 2026 Wisconsin Teacher of the Year on May 9 at OH Schultz Elementary School—she is a special education teacher recognized for her 27-year career in inclusive education. - ➤ Green Bay is now accepting applications for the District 8 alderperson seat as longtime council member Chris Wery—who will step down on May 16 to care for his mother—opens the selection process.
