COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Voting for the annual Wisconsin Fat Bird Week contest began Friday, May 8 at 9 a.m. in a bracket-style competition featuring eight native birds including the Massive Meadowlark and the Chungus Cardinal, with the winner to be announced on May 18 by the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin.  WBAY
  • Today, a charity pickleball tournament raises funds for the AJ Dillon Family Foundation at The Picklr, 2610 Holmgren Way in Ashwaubenon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $10, and NFL running back AJ Dillon will join youth while food from Kicking Barbecue and Sara’s Gelato is available.  WBAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday, Canvas restored most user services after a major cyberattack compromised personal data from millions (including some Northeast Wisconsin schools). The company is still investigating and said hackers threatened more data release if ransom demands are not met by May 12.  94.3 Jack FM
  • On May 7, UW-Green Bay students eased finals stress when Kid Farm LLC from Chilton brought newborn goats to Phoenix Park for soothing goat cuddles (the event also visited the Manitowoc and Sheboygan campuses earlier).  FOX 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WisDOT will repair the Walnut Street bridge in downtown starting fall 2028 through spring 2029. The project may close the bridge to vehicles (Sept.-Apr.) and boats (Dec.-Mar.), and an online meeting will be held May 13 at 5 p.m. to review plans.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Former reporter Michelle Clemens, who survived a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2017 and later co-wrote her memoir Determined with her father, appeared on Good Day Wisconsin May 8 to share her comeback as a motivational speaker + she is inspiring the community with her message of resilience.  FOX 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Packers released veteran kicker Brandon McManus — who struggled last season — and will let rookie Trey Smack, drafted last month, compete for the job.  NBC 26
  • Green Bay native Max Bobholz started Angels at Bat when he was 12, and now at 26 he is growing the nonprofit’s impact by donating 26,000 pounds of equipment to young baseball players in Africa + forming a new partnership with Prep Baseball to expand opportunities.  NBC 26
