BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cell.Plus announced it will permanently close all Wisconsin stores by July 31 (affecting 66 employees statewide), including the Suamico store at 2304 Lineville Road, after its agent operating agreement was not renewed.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Brown County History Days offers a week of free programs from May 10 to 16 at venues including the Neville Public Museum and Packers Hall of Fame for residents to explore local heritage.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and other UW campuses are dealing with a nationwide Canvas outage that is disrupting final exam and assignment processes. UW-Madison students may face exam changes today if access is not restored, while UWGB finals are set to begin on May 11.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNR officials reported that sturgeon spawned at Peshtigo Dam on Thursday (on the Peshtigo River) and groups were seen spawning below De Pere Dam on the lower Fox River, while none were observed at other local dams.  FOX 11
  • Heavy rain, snow and flooding have closed the Port of Green Bay until May 15 (officials reported fast water flowing from Lake Winnebago after dam gates were opened), which has raised concerns over spring stockpiles.  WNCY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Counties in Northeast WI are adjusting budgets as rising gas prices force Winnebago to cut non-essential fuel use — while Outagamie plans to tap its contingency fund to protect planned maintenance and construction projects for next year. Officials warned higher fuel costs could impact future budgets.  94.3 Jack FM
  • Brown County officials announced Thursday they reached a 60 year lease agreement with C. Reiss Terminals to relocate coal piles from near Mason Street to the former Pulliam Power Plant site (located at the Fox River mouth) in downtown.  WHBY
  • The Port of Green Bay remains closed to shipping until May 15 due to fast currents and high water levels on the Fox River caused by heavy rain and snowmelt, and the Army Corps of Engineers says it is not safe for ships to navigate and dock.  WBAY
  • Brown County reached a 60-year lease with C. Reiss Terminals to host salt operations at part of the former Pulliam Plant site, which will help move coal piles from downtown Mason Street riverfront to Fox River Terminal. County officials plan further redevelopment to boost regional growth.  WBAY
