COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On April 14, emergency crews in Suamico rescued three residents from a flooded house on Stream Road and helped a bus driver from stranded floodwater, while officials issued a disaster declaration after rising waters damaged Riverside Drive and submerged Lift Station 5.  WNCY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music star Lauren Alaina will headline Paperfest in Kimberly this summer, marking its first time featuring a national female headliner. The free concert is set for 9:30 p.m. on July 17, with more events running from July 16 to 19.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jesse Kreiling earned her bachelor’s in Water Science at UW-Green Bay on April 8 and began her role as a Stormwater Engineer at the Town of Grand Chute. She credited supportive faculty, hands-on labs, and a strong network for preparing her to tackle water challenges.  UW-Green Bay
  • Green Bay School Board approved Michael Hernandez as the new superintendent with a $230,000 first-year salary and benefits including relocation assistance and a $500 monthly rent allowance; his two-year contract starts July 1 with optional daily prep pay in June.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The East River Trail and nearby parks in Allouez are closed due to rising flood waters. The fire department asks residents near the river (in known flood zones) to prepare for evacuation and verify their backflow preventers as sewer backups slow drainage.  WBAY
  • Flooding closed Monroe Road from Hoffman Road in Bellevue to the Dickenson Road roundabout in Ledgeview yesterday, affecting Lamers Bus Lines and forcing the Unified School District of De Pere to close, while local businesses + fast food outlets were disrupted.  FOX 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health care staff at Emplify Health by Bellin trained on Tuesday — part of efforts sparked by Dillon’s Law that has saved 23 lives since 2017 — and advocates are pushing for a bill that will require first responders to carry epinephrine in emergencies.  WBAY
