ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out Tuesday at 223 S. Irwin Avenue on Green Bay's east side where residents, a dog, and a pet lizard self-evacuated before firefighters used thermal imaging (showing flames moving along the walls) to put out the blaze and prevent major damage while an investigation continues. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Green Bay man—Alejandro Cantu—was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision for his role in the April 2022 shooting death of Randall Denny; his brother Gustavo will be sentenced on April 22. WHBY
- ➤ Green Bay man Rezhun Scott pleaded no contest Tuesday and was sentenced to five and a half years in jail—followed by two and a half years of extended supervision—after being accused of harboring a driver involved in the 2022 fatal hit and run that claimed 17-year-old Cruz Beltron's life. WBAY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 1st, Green Bay voters cast ballots at polling sites including Redeemer Lutheran School and Trinity Lutheran Church to choose a candidate for an open state Supreme Court seat—this headliner in the spring election drew strong local interest. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Susan Crawford won Tuesday's Wisconsin Supreme Court race against Brad Schimel and will replace retiring Justice Ann Walsh Bradley (who served since 1995) to keep the court under liberal control (with four liberal justices on the bench). Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Police in Green Bay alerted drivers that a power outage had affected traffic lights on the west side and advised treating intersections as four-way stops—officials said temporary stop signs were placed at Mason Street—Military Avenue, Mason Street—Shawano Avenue, Fisk Street—Shawano Avenue, Fisk Street—Bond Street and Military Avenue—Bond Street.
