Good morning, Green Bay. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 27th of March.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay's Austin Straubel Airport has asked community volunteers to help manage what will be its busiest week in over 20 years as thousands of NFL Draft visitors will arrive in a month — volunteers will guide travelers, offer directions and share local information to support a safe visit. FOX 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Angela Hansen-Winker, the Wrightstown school board president, will face a recall election this April unless a judge halts the process, after a petition with more than 1,200 signatures was approved on March 11. If only one challenger files or she withdraws her name, the vote is set for April 22—if three or more candidates run, a primary will be held on April 22 followed by the final election on May 20. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ The race for the state superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction has been tracked since December as current leader Jill Underly faces challenger Brittany Kinser. The contest—addressing issues such as vouchers, teacher shortages and state test changes—will decide who will run 421 school districts. Green Bay Press-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay area voters will cast ballots on April 1 in a nonpartisan election to select school board members, regional officials and decide on a constitutional amendment for voter identification (which would require valid photographic ID). Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Lawmakers are weighing a bill that would allow a sandhill crane hunting season to help reimburse farmers for up to 50% of seed treatment costs after the birds caused about $1.9 million in crop damage in 2023. The plan requires a free hunter education course and, if approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and flyway councils, will start with a 3—4 year experimental season to assess regulations. WNCY
