EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was named a Research College and University by The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, one of only 216 institutions nationwide honored with the designation. Its research expenditures grew from $1.45 million in fiscal 2018 to $2.8 million in 2023. UW-Green Bay
- ➤ UW-Green Bay's new Future Leaders in Manufacturing program will launch this fall so students can work at lakeshore companies such as Sargento, Johnsonville, Masters Gallery Foods, and Pine River Pre-Pack—earning a competitive wage and receiving tuition reimbursement—while gaining hands-on experience in production and related roles. - ➤ The NTSB recommended that the owner of the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay complete a safety review — the bridge is noted as Critical/Essential if struck by a vessel. The report follows a Baltimore bridge collapse that killed six construction workers — the agency encouraged other bridge owners to check for similar risks. FOX 11
- ➤ On March 20th the Brown County Weyers-Hilliard Branch Library opened its second JobPod to help job seekers access employment resources and expertise. The new space offers support for overcoming barriers like transportation and digital skills—continuing a program that began last year. WNCY
