COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Orion Samuelson, a Wisconsin native and farm broadcasting pioneer, died Monday at 91, leaving a legacy of 60 years of ag reporting on WBAY and WGN radio (his work helped shape local and national agriculture communications).  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Safe Haven Hope Center secured a permanent space formerly owned by Newcap to become a low-barrier shelter for individuals facing homelessness, offering basic needs and mental health support; the facility (which previously housed up to five families) plans to operate year-round once City Council and Planning Commission approve the project.  94.3 Jack FM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters remain at work to contain the blaze at Green Bay Converting that began on March 16 at the Larsen Road site — crews face harsh blizzard conditions and freezing temperatures that are slowing progress today.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Snowplows escorted a Gillett ambulance Monday morning through heavy snow to reach a rural home where first responders walked 1,000 feet to attend to an elderly woman’s emergency and take her to a nearby hospital in stable condition — officials described the storm as the worst in 31 years.  WBAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • New Dublin launches cultural celebrations in New London today after a blizzard delayed the traditional name-changing ceremony; leprechauns swapped signs as neighbors prepared for parades, music and events during St. Patrick’s Week (the stage includes Saturday’s Grand Parade and an Irish Festival).  NBC 26

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brown County Parks Department has been clearing parking lots and grooming winter trails at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve in Suamico following Blizzard Elsa to boost snowshoeing and skiing for visitors today. Officials say the trails will remain available for at least a week if conditions stay steady.  FOX 11
  • During the March 14–16 blizzard, the region saw over 2 feet of snow with some towns recording up to 33 inches as noted by the National Weather Service. The heavy snowfall led to school closures and broke the April 2018 record, though it did not match the March 1888 event.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

  • UW Green Bay women's basketball earned an automatic NCAA Tournament bid with a win over Youngstown State last week, and the Phoenix will face No. 4 Minnesota on Friday, Mar. 20 in Minneapolis + this marks their third straight tournament appearance.  UW-Green Bay
