COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 14, 2025, locals watched the Blood Worm Moon as a total lunar eclipse turned the full moon red—stargazers snapped photos of its changing phases during the early morning. The eclipse, seen across Northeast Wisconsin, marked the first total lunar eclipse since November 2022.  FOX 11
  • On March 14th, 2025, Langlade Elementary in Green Bay collected 8,144 hygiene items for the Help for the Homeless drive—exceeding its goal and aiding a county effort for those in need.  FOX 11

CRIME NEWS

  • A jury on Thursday convicted Green Bay man Owen Backus of first-degree intentional homicide for Michael Hubbard's death—his bond was revoked and he is set to be sentenced on June 9 at 3:00 p.m. in Brown County Court.  WBAY
  • Obilio Thomas Sargento Roblero, 32, was ruled not competent to stand trial for a hit-and-run on Oct. 25 that killed retired officer Thomas Roberts in Gillett—he will continue receiving psychiatric treatment with his competency to be reviewed in three months.  FOX 11
  • A Green Bay man, Owen Backus, was convicted of second-degree intentional homicide for killing Michael Hubbard at a west-side home in December 2023—sentencing is set for June 9.  WNCY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Green Bay residents celebrated a dog event on March 14 and now have several St. Patrick’s Day events planned through March 17, including a bar crawl at The Sardine Can at 4 p.m. on March 15, a party at The Nightly Buzz at 8 p.m., special menus at Ten O One Club on March 17 and an art workshop at Board and Brush on March 16. Local venues like St. Brendan’s Inn will host live music and activities that showcase Irish culture — adding festive spirit to the weekend.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early in-person absentee voting for the April 1 election begins on March 18 across Brown County—voters in Green Bay, De Pere, and nearby villages can cast ballots for the state superintendent, a Wisconsin Supreme Court judge, and contested school board seats with varied polling hours.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Potholes are growing on Brown County roads this spring because freeze-and-thaw cycles make cracks widen and pavement collapse when ice melts plus the Highway Department crews work daily to patch them with a cold patch and sometimes mastic when weather hinders repairs.
