  • Safe Haven Hope Center (a low-barrier shelter) is being planned to aid residents who fall through the cracks, including those facing substance challenges. The nonprofit is seeking a downtown space of about 5 thousand sqft while temporarily placing unhoused individuals in hotels today.  WNCY

  • At Hoewisch Dairy Farm in Fremont, owner Jake Hoewisch is preparing for Winter Storm Elsa by planning to connect a tractor+generator to keep his 500 cows fed and maintain milk production; he warned that power outages may delay milk pickup if roads are covered in snow.  FOX 11
  • Residents are preparing for winter storms this weekend as local hardware stores in Green Bay and Ashwaubenon stock essential supplies — shovels, salt and snow blowers. Martin Hardware and Kimps Ace Hardware report high demand that could see their winter gear sell out by Sunday.  94.3 Jack FM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Paper Transport in De Pere said diesel prices surged over 80 cents since March 1 — prompting drivers to limit idling and choose fueling stops wisely so extra costs aren’t passed to consumers. Diesel in Green Bay now averages $4.50 per gallon, reflecting global supply pressures from the war in Iran.  94.3 Jack FM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Utility companies in Green Bay are preparing for potential power outages as heavy snow and strong winds are forecast for this weekend. Residents should take precautions (charging phones, stocking water, and keeping blankets on hand) and drive slowly if traveling during the storm.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tony Evers signed Wisconsin Act 88 and Act 89 last Friday, which criminalize grooming and require school districts to adopt policies and hold annual training sessions to protect children.  94.3 Jack FM
  • The southern part of the bay will reopen to commercial vessel traffic at 8 a.m. Monday, Mar. 16 — ending a winter closure set to protect ice fishing and recreation. Coast Guard officials said icebreaking may also resume if needed.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
