COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CP's 72nd annual Telethon is this weekend with a two-hour livestream on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and a live broadcast Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at CP—raising funds for services in Northeast Wisconsin and showcasing therapy sessions that help improve lives.  WBAY
  • The Cornerstone Community Center is building a new 3,000-seat Schneider Family Arena with a roof and lights in place and will expand youth programs and host hockey tournaments later this fall (officials are asking for donations). The project remains $2.5 million short of its $23 million goal.  WNCY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged the Urban Cultural Arts & Event Center on Walnut St downtown on Friday morning, but no one was hurt as firefighters extinguished the blaze by 9 a.m. while checking roof hot spots.  WBAY
  • On Friday, Mar. 6, a fire at Urban Cultural Arts Center at 906 E. Walnut Street caused about $80,000 in damage as smoke filled the building; firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and ventilated the area with no injuries reported.  FOX 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • A life-sized statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe from Mexico City is touring Northeast Wisconsin and is on display at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion through Tuesday. The exhibit offers hourly Pilgrim Experiences and prayer intent submissions ahead of the Virgin Mary’s 500th anniversary of apparitions.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The school board met in closed session Friday, March 6 to choose a new superintendent who will replace retiring Vicki Bayer, with finalists Michael Hernandez and Michael Trimberger in contention.  FOX 11
  • On Friday, Mar. 6, state Superintendent Underly said that Wisconsin high schools continue to lack dedicated state funding for hands-on job training programs after lawmakers rejected her $45 million proposal, leaving schools dependent on short-term federal funds + local referendums for extra support.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

  • Local tributes honor Bob Harlan, the retired Packers President who passed away yesterday at 89. Billboards around Lambeau Field and Titletown celebrate his visionary leadership and caring approach that transformed the local sports arena.  FOX 11

    The Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education will work independently to provide administrative support to ensure smooth operations in accordance with policies and procedures. They will demonstrate exemplary communication skills that will reflect positively on HSSD. Serving as a liaison, the individual will offer timely assistance and be resourceful for both internal and external stakeholders while handling confidential matters with discretion. This is a 12 month position with an ideal start date of March 16, 2026. Competitive salary commensurate with experience and full benefit package.
