COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The third annual Rock the Block will be held on De Pere’s west side from Sept. 16-18. Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity and the city are inviting volunteers to help improve homes (applications will be mailed to all 140 houses) to boost community upkeep and pride.  WTAQ
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked Green Bay No. 6 among Wisconsin cities in a study that looked at house prices, income, and commute times; the report used Census data to show the city has low home values and short commutes even if unemployment is a bit high.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Green Bay jewelry and candy shops report rising prices for Valentine’s Day items—gold is up 71% and silver nearly 300% while chocolate costs soar, prompting shoppers to find more affordable treats.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Army ROTC cadets from UW Oshkosh, St. Norbert, Marian and UW-Green Bay will train at Plamann Park on Thursdays from Feb. 19 to Apr. 16, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Officials say the training uses nonfunctional equipment (rubber ducks) and marked areas to keep visitor disruptions minimal.  FOX 11
  • The former Wequiock Elementary building (3994 Wequiock Road) is leased to Holy Cross Catholic School after a narrow 4 to 3 school board vote on Feb. 13. The school will cap enrollment at 140 students while owner David Charles donates $150,000 to the local education foundation.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews stopped six sanitary sewer leaks tied to a downtown project on Thursday night, and some wastewater reached the East River. Cleanup continues on Friday as workers cordoned off areas (including Main Street and Monroe Street) to keep the public safe.  WTAQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Deedra Irwin (from Pulaski) is set to compete today in the women’s 7.5km biathlon sprint at the Winter Olympics in Italy, starting at 7:45 a.m. The Olympian earned the best finish for an American biathlete (at Beijing 2022) and will make her second Olympic appearance.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
