COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Green Bay residents have several events as the weather warms up; Titletown Winter Games run noon to 7 p.m. on Jan. 31 with curling and luge, Noble Roots Brewing hosts a chili cookoff at noon the same day, and free tubing is available at Ariens Hill on Feb. 1.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students and staff at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Green Bay marked the 40th anniversary of the Challenger disaster Wednesday by honoring its namesake teacher. Principal Kelly Rollin said the school’s tribute included a special PA announcement (73 seconds of reflective music) to keep her legacy alive.  WBAY
  • On Monday, superintendents from the five largest districts, including Green Bay, sent a letter to state lawmakers asking for part of the $6 billion surplus (seeking relief from inflation-caused funding shortfalls) while lawmakers balance proposals for tax relief and special education increases.  WNCY
  • More than 2,600 sixth grade students from across Northeast Wisconsin attended NWTC’s two-day STEM Fair on Wednesday, Jan. 28 in Green Bay, where they discovered STEM careers through hands-on activities like launching rockets and simulated medical procedures.  WTAQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers's office has granted $1.3 million to support moving downtown coal piles to a new site by the Fox River mouth. The Port of Green Bay and Brown County will work on construction, dredging, and stormwater improvements to boost ship access.  FOX 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • New parents at Emplify Health by Bellin receive two books and a journal — gifts provided by the Mike and Leanne Haddad Family Foundation, with the Books for Babies program set to expand to HSHS Saint Vincent later this year.  WBAY
  • Urology Associates of Green Bay secured its email system after unusual activity in December exposed some patients’ email addresses, though no other data was affected. Affected patients were notified and advised to watch for suspicious emails while the provider upgraded its technical safeguards (including notifying regulatory agencies).  94.3 Jack FM
