- ➤ Green Bay offers several events this weekend including an MLK Day celebration at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College on Jan. 17, free fishing (no license needed) from Jan. 17 to 18, Winter Carnival Family Fun Night on Jan. 16, and UW-Green Bay basketball on Jan. 18. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Green Bay Public Market project leaders said construction is set to resume in Q2 as they work to secure the $5.5 million needed to complete the $27.2 million renovation of the Old Fort Square Building on Broadway. Pledged funds of $21.7 million support the development with an anticipated opening before the end of 2027. WTAQ
- ➤ New Community Shelter and Bergstrom Subaru partnered on Wednesday to donate new coats, shoes and socks to children from Fort Howard School and the meal program as part of the Subaru Loves to Help initiative and Operation Warm — the event boosted comfort and self-esteem. WBAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Appleton, Fond du Lac, Menasha and Howard-Suamico school districts will ask voters to approve operational referendums in April to address budget shortfalls and maintain student programs (costs range from $2 million to $15 million per year). - ➤ Climate Central data shows that winters in Green Bay are about seven degrees warmer than in the 1970s and cold snaps are nine days shorter, raising concerns for water supplies, agriculture and winter recreation as the trend continues. FOX 11
