COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has opened applications for the Citizens Academy, which runs Thursdays from Feb. 19 to April 23 (6-9 p.m.) at 2684 Development Drive in Green Bay. Residents 18 and older will learn about patrol, jail, investigations, K9 units, and community policing.  94.3 Jack FM
  • Golden House thanked supporters on Dec. 31 for helping survivors secure safety and essential care — the group also urged further donations to maintain its vital services.  Green Bay News Network

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Green Bay school board voted 5 to 2 against a pilot program for weapon detection systems recommended by the superintendent, citing cost and operational issues. The board said it may revisit school safety measures in the future.  WTAQ
  • The Green Bay school board voted 5-2 to reject a pilot for weapon detection systems, citing concerns over cost, system reliability and impact on school culture (including false alarms and staffing needs). Future security measures are expected as the board continues its safety review.  94.3 Jack FM
  • Green Bay Area Public School District board members voted against a pilot for weapon detection systems because more details on cost and effectiveness are needed — no trials will take place at the high schools.  WNCY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Applications are now open for the 2026 Citizens Academy hosted by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and the course will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 19 to April 23 at the sheriff’s office (2684 Development Drive) in Green Bay (no prior experience required).  WNCY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will practice Wednesday but must still clear concussion protocol, coach Matt LaFleur said. With Love and backup Malik Willis injured in Week 16 at Chicago, the team signed Desmond Ridder to the practice squad and he may join Sunday’s game against the Vikings.  WTAQ
  • Winter Park Ski Area in Kewaunee County offers tubing on snowy hills with a powered walkway called the Magic Carpet, and over 1,300 riders have enjoyed the hill so far; the park will run on Friday and weekends during the season. Admission is $10 for a two-hour pass (family rates available).  FOX 11
  • The Harlem Globetrotters wrapped up their 100th-season tour stop at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon on Dec. 30, dazzling fans with signature tricks (including playful interactions) during the game.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
