COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Green Bay residents rallied to support police officer Austen Jahnke who fell from his saddle while hunting on Oct 30 and is now in the ICU with a broken sternum, broken ribs, and a broken back with no feeling from the waist down—his GoFundMe has reached 68% of its goal to help pay for recovery and home renovations as his wife awaits their first child in February.  FOX 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Many Green Bay businesses are changing their cash policies due to a coin shortage after the penny was discontinued in May. Woodman’s Food Market will begin rounding cash transactions on Nov. 10th while some local outlets have not yet seen a significant impact as card payments rise.  94.3 Jack FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Green Bay school board held two community input sessions on Tuesday at the Neville Public Museum (210 Museum Place) to gather feedback that a consulting firm will use in finding candidates for a new superintendent after Vicki Bayer announced her retirement. The sessions were held at 12 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  WBAY
  • Construction at Starr Elementary in Green Bay showed progress on October 30 + workers installed systems as the new school, which will replace Kennedy Elementary, is set to open for the 2026-27 school year.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • The Oneida Nation and UWGB deepened their long-standing partnership during Native American Heritage Month with two sporting events in Green Bay. They unveiled a new men’s basketball jersey by student Jossalyn Metoxen on November 3 and will host an exchange game with Haskell on November 29 at the Kress Center — explaining the design’s cultural meaning.  UW-Green Bay
  • Green Bay East High School head football coach Niko Sila, who was placed on administrative leave after district administrators told him last week to resign or be fired, gave a live update Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. near the Joannes Park Pavilion — he addressed about 20 allegations including criticism of administrators and policy breaches related to giving students rides, and officials said they would recommend his termination if he does not resign.  FOX 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A state appeals court upheld the DNR’s decision to deny the Jessica McCarthy Trust’s permit for a 147-foot dock at a Gibraltar home on Juddville Bay—citing potential harm to public use and local habitat. The ruling noted that the trust failed to prove the project would not negatively affect the public interest and may be further appealed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  WTAQ
  • A state appeals court upheld the DNR ruling on Tuesday that denied the Jessica McCarthy Trust’s permit for a 147-foot dock on Juddville Bay—saying the project would damage local habitat and restrict public lakebed area, and the decision may be appealed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  WNCY
  • Brown County’s plan to raise contaminant limits for soils at the south landfill was discussed by the DNR yesterday & residents in Holland raised safety concerns. The DNR is accepting written comments until Nov. 11 and will decide on the proposal within 90 days by Feb. 9.  FOX 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former UWGB standout Jasmine Kondrakiewicz joined coach Kayla Karius’ staff this summer to help guide former teammates and local youth as she turns to coaching after a strong career on the court (with 1,149 career points). Karius said she shows clear leadership and coaching potential as she adjusts to new responsibilities with the team.  UW-Green Bay
  • Green Bay’s Redevelopment Authority provided initial approval for exclusive negotiations with the United Soccer League to bring professional men’s and women’s soccer teams to the city — high downtown energy played a role — and the plan will require city council approval to secure an exclusive window until September 2026. The next step is to plan for a purpose-built stadium with a mix of private and public funding.  WNCY
