- ➤ Green Bay will host several Halloween events this weekend—on Oct. 24, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary will hold a Howling Halloween Hike with kid-friendly and spookier options; on Oct. 25, a trick-or-treat event in De Pere, Suamico’s Autumn Festival featuring a Beer Belly 5K Run/Walk, free stargazing at Bay Beach, comedian Hannah Berner at the Meyer Theatre, and a hot pepper beer challenge at Stillmank Brewing will offer family fun; additional trick-or-treat activities continue through Oct. 26. - ➤ Airports in Northeast Wisconsin are seeing an early boost in holiday travel as longer lines formed at Appleton International Airport and officials expect to break one million travelers by early November — larger aircraft have increased capacity. At Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport, passenger traffic is up 5% and officials urge travelers to book soon — with busy seasons expected from Thanksgiving to Christmas. WNCY

- ➤ At 98, Marge Engelman has led a life of hard work in learning, teaching, and art at UW-Green Bay and beyond. She earned four degrees, broke barriers in adult education, and still inspires others (through her lifelong studies) (by sharing her creative achievements). UW-Green Bay
- ➤ The Universities of Wisconsin reported that fall enrollment hit 164,626 students, up by 190 from last fall, and saw the largest ever 5.5% growth in Wisconsin freshmen—thanks to Direct Admit Wisconsin and the 2025 Wisconsin Tuition Promise—even as the number of international students dropped by 7.6%. - ➤ Chelci Sila, wife of Green Bay East football coach Niko Sila who was put on leave before the 120th game, said the school district must share details on nearly 20 claims, including that he made players do push-ups for cursing+ which she called petty. Officials said they could not give details due to privacy rules+ and that students and parents have planned a protest to demand transparency. WNCY
- ➤ Brown County school boards have released draft budgets for the 2025-26 school year using enrollment numbers from Oct. 15 that show shifts in tax rates and spending details. Some districts like Green Bay Area Public Schools plan to handle a deficit while others such as Ashwaubenon, Denmark, De Pere, Howard-Suamico, Pulaski, West De Pere and Wrightstown adjust rates to cover costs. - ➤ Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge in downtown Green Bay will be closed to masted navigation on Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon and on Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.—maintenance work will limit boat passage and close some lanes for drivers. FOX 11

- ➤ Wisconsin users of SNAP and FoodShare are facing delays in November benefits due to a potential government shutdown—benefits may be delayed by days or weeks depending on the shutdown's length. Local pantries in Green Bay, such as Paul's Pantry, are preparing for more families needing help—while smaller pantries warn that increased demand may force them to offer smaller portions. WNCY
- ➤ Dr. Brian Merkel, Associate Professor and Chair of Human Biology, shared his experience of surviving acute myeloid leukemia in 1984 with Green Bay Oncology’s Dr. Brian Burnette and his former student Dr. Evan Wenig.
