- ➤ Volunteers at Green Bay Community Church in Howard began packing over 650,000 meals on Oct.6 as part of the Feed My Starving Children MobilePack—about 3,500 helpers have joined the work and sessions will continue through Thursday. 94.3 Jack FM
- ➤ The sisters of Pi Beta Phi at UW—Green Bay raised nearly $900 earlier this year by partnering with Smart Cow Yogurt Bar in a frozen yogurt fundraiser that supports Read>Lead>Achieve, a program that provides books to children. They will host a Chipotle fundraiser on Nov. 18 from 5-9 p.m. at their E. Mason Street location to fund book grants for local elementary schools. UW-Green Bay

- ➤ Somerville Architects + Engineers moved into a newly built $12 million headquarters—located at 2120 Riverside Drive in Allouez—where modern work spaces and meeting areas support its operations. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Station 1 Brewing in Suamico, which opened in an old fire station at 1745 Riverside Drive in 2021, now operates Company Coffee—a café that serves Stone Creek Coffee beans and a menu of familiar drinks—to offer a place for community gatherings. Owner Peter App managed the renovations and said the business brews six to nine varieties of craft beer while welcoming guests in both the brewery and the café. UW-Green Bay
- ➤ New North Inc. is hosting a series of local pitch contests during Startup Week where entrepreneurs can upload their ideas by Oct. 31 and the top winners will advance to a regional contest on Dec. 3 at TitletownTech in Green Bay (contestants compete for cash prizes). UW-Green Bay
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay education leaders held a news conference to urge high school seniors to fill out their FAFSA in October because it shows how much aid they may get for college. University and school officials said completing the form early—before the June 30 deadline—will help families decide if higher education is an affordable choice and noted that the process will continue despite the government shutdown. - ➤ Former Congressman Reid Ribble signed on for a second three-year term as UW-Green Bay’s practitioner in residence for the political science program, where he brings lessons from his time in Congress—he has led events and guided internships to give students real-world insights. UW-Green Bay
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Green Bay City Council approved a $140,000 starting salary for the next mayor on Oct. 7—marking a 37% increase from the current $102,298.55—with the new term set to begin in April. Some council members and residents questioned whether the raise might burden taxpayers while supporters argued it would help attract strong candidates. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ At the October 6 Public Safety Committee meeting, Brown County Public Safety Communications Director Chancy Huntzinger said that despite dispatcher complaints of burnout and understaffing raised on September 17, the center is adequately staffed and has reduced overtime by about 200 hours per pay period due to a 13% drop in 911 calls—she added that a new 2026 schedule will boost pay with built-in overtime adding roughly $6,000 per year.
