COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers began packing over 650,000 meals Monday at the Feed My Starving Children event at Green Bay Community Church in Howard — roughly 3,500 volunteers work in eight rotating sessions to help feed people around the world — and the effort continues through Thursday.  FOX 11
  • Officials at Cornerstone Community Center unveiled the Donald and Patricia Schneider Family Arena—an expansion that adds a 3,000-seat facility and will host more ice sports events. The center launched the public phase of its Grow the 'Stone campaign to raise the final $3 million needed, with the arena set to open in fall 2026.  WNCY
  • Green Bay resident David Wilson is working to reactivate the city’s NAACP chapter by gathering 7 to 10 volunteers and aiming for 100 dues-paying members along with recommendation letters from community organizations—steps needed for a new chapter. He will meet with the state NAACP this week to secure a recommendation and move the process forward for broader community advocacy.  WTAQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, firefighters controlled a car fire in a multi-family home on Green Bay's west side that had no working smoke detectors—residents evacuated safely and damage was estimated at $26,000 as officials urge monthly alarm testing.  FOX 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce and Johnson Financial Group announced the top 16 products moving on in the 10th annual Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest after more than 15,000 votes were cast, and voting ends at 5:00 p.m. the top 8 products will be revealed on Oct. 8 and the overall winner announced at Business Day on Oct. 23 in Madison—highlighting Wisconsin's manufacturing strength.  NBC 26
  • Kwik Trip will open a new store on West Mason Street at 5 a.m. Oct. 30 with self-checkout options, a car wash & landscaping and a stormwater detention basin surrounding the 9,000-square-foot building. The store will host an open house with a ribbon-cutting from 7 to 9 a.m. Nov. 13 and will be open 24 hours for local residents.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Northeast Wisconsin smoke shops have suffered severe losses since new vape rules took effect on Sept. 1 — with some reporting an 81% drop in sales and reduced hours or closures. Owners say the limited selection of authorized devices is pushing customers to use cigarettes or nicotine pouches as a lawsuit against the regulations awaits a federal court decision by December.  94.3 Jack FM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Since the new vape rules took effect on Sept. 1, smoke shop sales in northeast Wisconsin have fallen 81%—owners say customers are switching to cigarettes or border shops—and some locations have closed. WiscoFAST has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Revenue that may change the rules by December.  WNCY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leaders from UW and the Green Bay De Pere school district held a news conference on Oct. 6 to explain how high school seniors can apply for federal student aid. UW President Jay Rothman — along with UW-Green Bay Chancellor Michael Alexander — said the Free Application for Federal Student Aid will help seniors plan for college.  FOX 11

  • Bellevue officials are reviewing the budget and planning changes to boost revenue and sustain services as the village grows. The village manager said new EMS positions and balanced residential and commercial development—plus a goal to double the population—will help meet fiscal challenges.  94.3 Jack FM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Green Bay Habitat for Humanity held a ribbon cutting for Habitat Homestead on the city's east side as it prepares to welcome 13 families into new single family homes and townhouses. Homeowners will buy with a 0% interest mortgage and close within the next few weeks as the two-year project built by over 350 volunteers promises a close-knit community—neighbors look forward to holiday memories.  WTAQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Norbert College and Bellin College announced Friday an NCAA-approved pilot program that lets SNC student-athletes transfer to Bellin and keep competing in sports while pursuing their healthcare or other majors. The program, featuring inaugural participant Madison DeCleene, is the first of its kind designed to let students balance academics with athletics—allowing them to stay connected to both passions.  94.3 Jack FM
