COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Green Bay officials and NeighborWorks Green Bay launched a new Community Land Trust—an effort by the Green Bay Housing Partnership—to create affordable homeownership options for families. The initiative kept the land under nonprofit control to secure long-term housing stability in our community.  WBAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tarl Knight said his downtown theater will host a 'We Will Still Be Seen: A Pop-Up Pride' event on October 4 as a response to NEW Pride postponing its festival. The event will start with a noon rally on CityDeck along the Fox River—followed by speakers and a community walk to a block party on South Chestnut.  WBAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, Green Bay schools began new safety measures including mandatory clear backpacks and tougher discipline rules for grades 6 through 12 after a gun was found in a backpack at Preble High two weeks ago. Community members + school officials agree that more steps are needed as data from a safety roundtable will be presented at the October 13 board meeting.  94.3 Jack FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep Scott Krug introduced a bill that would let municipalities start processing absentee ballots the day before an election—this change would cover tasks like unsealing envelopes and verifying signatures. The bill also adds extra security for ballot drop boxes—requiring live-streamed surveillance, two poll workers, and a police officer—which some local officials say could strain staffing and budgets.  WNCY
  • The Brown County Job Center reopened Tuesday inside the Brown County Central Library on Pine Street in downtown Green Bay after a ribbon-cutting ceremony, making job search help and career services more accessible to residents. The center now offers resume support, job listings, career counseling and interview preparation workshops — a move aimed at removing past barriers to employment.  94.3 Jack FM
