- ➤ Today, NeighborWorks Green Bay, Green Bay Neighborhoods, the City of Green Bay, and the Village of Allouez have launched the 6th Annual Good Neighbor Week — offering free home improvement projects from today until September 28 across Green Bay, Allouez, and planned projects in De Pere — with local volunteers repairing, painting, landscaping, and enhancing homes. The event also debuts the new Rock the Block initiative in Fisk Addition to further support residents with no-cost repairs. NBC 26
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay Public Schools started a clear backpack policy today for 6th-12th grade students after a loaded gun was found this month at Preble High School, and FOX 11 Investigates is reviewing if additional measures like weapon detection systems will be added. The review examined cost estimates—about $840,000 annually for all schools—and discussed concerns over the system's ability to stop all threats. FOX 11
- ➤ The Green Bay Area Public School District has put new safety rules into effect today after a student brought a gun to Preble High School earlier this month — now all middle and high school students must use clear backpacks and face immediate suspension with removal from campus for fighting, assault, or weapon-related incidents with law enforcement likely to be notified for serious cases. - ➤ The Green Lake Association confirmed a lake-wide harmful blue-green algae bloom in Green Lake that reached depths near 200 feet—water samples were collected since Sept 16. - ➤ Green Bay Public Works announced that North Washington Street (between Cherry and Pine) will be closed starting today through Friday and the 2900 block of Saint Anthony Drive (between Mount Mary and Curry) is closed today with no detours posted. - ➤ Green Bay will launch its first community land trust called the Green Bay Housing Partnership after Sept 23—its news conference is set at the new workforce neighborhood on JBS-donated land. - ➤ On Sunday, the Fox Cities Marathon returned with over 4,400 runners—nearly 40% of whom were first timers—despite warm and humid weather. Winners included John Thill and Relena Ribbons in the full marathons and John Hollister in the half marathon, with some planning new challenges later this year. WBAY
- ➤ The Packers lost to the Browns as Browns kicker Andre Szmyt hit a 55 yard field goal in the final minutes to give Cleveland a 13 to 10 win.
