CRIME NEWS

  • Former Green Bay school board member Kou Lee was charged Friday with two felonies for election fraud after he allegedly got elected while not living in the district — his initial court appearance is set for November 19.  WNCY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Green Bay School District announced new rules to curb violence after a loaded gun was found at Preble High on Sept 18. Suspended students will face a five-day transition period with parent meetings and lose access to school activities—repeat offenders may be transferred or expelled as staff take on extra duties.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay received a $330K grant from SC Johnson to study microplastics in fish from Lake Michigan and Green Bay—professor Patrick Forsythe will lead a team that will hire researchers and students for work starting in 2026 with findings set to be published in 2028.  WTAQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Department of Administration announced $1.3 million in grants to 35 coastal communities to fund projects like finalizing the Bay of Green Bay as a National Estuarine Research Reserve, building a boat launch and dock in Two Rivers, and fighting invasive species in Door County—measures designed to protect and improve our shorelines. The next round of grants will accept applications until Nov. 3.  WNCY
  • Lawmakers in Madison discussed a bill on Thursday that would spend $1.9 million to reopen temporary housing centers for veterans in Green Bay and Chippewa Falls after state funding ended Sept. 30; State Senator Andre Jacque said the plan could let the Green Bay center reopen in a few months — a change meant to help homeless veterans.  WNCY
  • The ACLU of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit against five local sheriffs who held immigrant detainees for an extra 48 hours at ICE's request—arguing that this practice violates state law and disrupts the local criminal justice process. The group asks the Wisconsin Supreme Court to rule that local jails cannot be used to hold immigrants on these detainers.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • A portion of N. Washington Street between Cherry and Pine will be closed from Monday, Sept. 22 through Friday, Sept. 26 for a private utility connection on a downtown apartment complex — motorists must use an alternate route.  WNCY
