CRIME NEWS

  • The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Xiomara Romero-Sanchez, a 42-year-old Hispanic woman last seen on Aug. 8 in Bellevue and her family reported no signs of foul play—anyone with information should call Sgt Marc Shield at 920 448 4404.  94.3 Jack FM
  • Richard Sotka, 51, already serving back-to-back life sentences for murdering two women, was given an extra three years in prison and three years of supervision—sentencing that runs consecutive to his current terms—after he attacked a Brown County Jail officer who was treated and released the same day.  WTAQ
  • Green Bay police are seeking Diamond N. Randolph, a 29-year-old who is about 4-foot-11 and weighs 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen at 7 p.m. on Aug. 15 near the intersection of S. Taylor Street and Larsen Road—friends are very concerned for Randolph’s welfare.  94.3 Jack FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has launched an English-to-Spanish noncredit certificate program with an American Translators Association exam prep boot camp—designed to train bilingual professionals to serve the region’s growing Hispanic community in health care, education and legal fields. Partners for Community Development Inc. said the initiative will improve access and cultural understanding in local services.  UW-Green Bay
  • Green Bay Area Public School District held a welcome back event at Joannes Park with games, crafts, a magic show, and a free meal to excite students and families before school begins on Sept. 2. The district closed some schools last year and will close more next year to address enrollment and budget challenges—upgrading Doty and Chappell Elementary and planning Starr Elementary for the future.  WNCY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin legislators are proposing to make tips up to $25,000 tax-exempt at state and local levels in addition to the federal change that took effect this summer. Lawmakers say the move will boost workers' incomes, though it will cut state revenue—about $33 million on a $111 billion budget.  WNCY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wisconsin health officials have confirmed five new measles cases in Oconto County, raising the total to 14—public health teams are notifying those exposed and advising unvaccinated individuals to stay home if symptoms appear.  WNCY
