COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local breweries are collecting aluminum tabs to help Ronald McDonald House, and Zambaldi Beer hosts today’s Tab Toss from noon to 2 p.m. (1649 Webster Ave) while offering a free pint for a bag of tabs dropped off by Friday night as part of a friendly competition.  WBAY
  • St. Vincent de Paul will open its new thrift store at 1831 Main St. next Thursday at 9 a.m. The nonprofit remodeled the former Planet Fitness building to create 15,000 sqft of retail space + 4,000 sqft for donation processing and drive-through drop-offs.  WBAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cheesehead hat was created in the late 1980s by Ralph Bruno as a playful response to insults from Illinois neighbors and has grown into a cherished part of Packers culture—its bright design is now displayed at the Smithsonian’s American History Museum.  WBAY
  • Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in Door County welcomes visitors daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—extensive restorations include a rebuilt barn now serving as a welcome center—and the site will host a grand opening celebration on Friday, June 26.  FOX 11
  • The Rev. Nathan Budde, a Notre Dame Academy graduate serving as a transitional deacon, will be ordained to the Catholic priesthood today at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in downtown Green Bay with Bishop David L. Ricken leading the celebration.  Green Bay News Network
  • The Grooves On The Green concert series returns with a free performance by Troy Heinz and the 57’s at Perkins Park on August 8 as part of D.I.C.E. community engagement — staff will also distribute neighborhood surveys in Kennedy Park.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Under Wisconsin law, minors as young as 12 may work summer jobs in street trades, farming, or domestic work, with limits of eight hours daily for 12- to 15-year-olds and 50 hours weekly for 16- and 17-year-olds—applicants must obtain a labor permit and parental consent.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced new UTV safety rules effective June 1 that require helmets for riders 18 and younger and a state-approved safety course for riders born on or after Jan. 1, 1988. The rules aim to improve public trail safety.  NBC 26

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local pediatricians remind parents to supervise children at all times while swimming this summer to ensure quick action if a child struggles. They advise calling 911 and providing CPR as needed, and recommend checking that water bodies are free from harmful contaminants — key safety measures for the season.  WBAY
