COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials from the Broadway, Downtown and Olde Main Districts unveiled the Summer in the City guide in the Shipyard District on May 28th to bring summer events back to Green Bay. The guide lists farmers’ markets, music series, family shows, and more that will run through October—giving locals and visitors many ways to enjoy the season.  WNCY

CRIME NEWS

  • Timothy Mossberger of Green Bay was charged with two counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety after a head-on crash on April 1 that left three people seriously injured on the west side near Velp and Wilson avenues—he is set to appear in court on July 3.  94.3 Jack FM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Green Bay will host a busy weekend of events featuring a Blizzard game on May 30 at the Resch Center with diabetes awareness night, a video game music concert at The Weidner on May 31, and a food festival called MeatFest at the Resch Expo with a kids' cooking competition. Other highlights include a Levit AMP concert at Leicht Memorial Park, a Rockers game in Ashwaubenon at Capital Credit Union Park, and comedian Maria Bamford’s performance at the Meyer Theatre at 7:30 p.m. June 1 — all offering local fun for families and friends.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. Department of Education officials opened an investigation into the Green Bay Area Public School District after the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty filed a complaint alleging that a student with dyslexia did not receive proper special education services because he is white — the probe will focus on possible race and disability discrimination — and officials will update the community as the review continues. Officials said they are working to ensure all students receive equal support.  WeAreGreenBay.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The DNR reminds anglers to drain live wells—helping prevent invasive species—from boats and to transport fish on ice since state law prohibits using water; it also advises proper disposal of live bait to protect Wisconsin waters.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights launched an investigation into the Green Bay Area Public School District after a complaint said a white student at King Elementary did not get one-on-one reading help because the district focused on racial priority groups. The review will check if the district’s reading policy broke federal rules by giving extra help based on race—requirements state that support must be based on need.  FOX 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Brown County Public Health helped 47 families reduce lead exposure in older homes last year—3 families continued to have high lead levels and received guidance on cleaning and nutrition. Nurse Becky Mooren estimated that about 30% of local children have not been tested—urging parents to schedule regular pediatric checkups for early detection.  WBAY

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Brown County runs 18 parks and highlights seven smaller sites for summer visits. The parks offer picnic areas, playgrounds, trails, and scenic spots—like Lily Lake Park and Fonferek’s Glen—for families to enjoy the outdoors.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
