COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Brown County has 140 foster children + only 70 licensed homes during Foster Care Month, putting sibling groups at risk of separation. Officials urge locals to volunteer or serve as respite hosts to ease the burden on foster families.  NBC 26
  • Crowds enjoyed the first Farmers' Market on Broadway yesterday at 3 p.m. in downtown Green Bay, with over 100 local vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, and other items. The market, now in its 23rd season, will run weekly through Sept. 30.  FOX 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Titletown District hosted its Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage celebration yesterday in Ashwaubenon. The event featured a Chinese lion dance by Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association and local dance group performances.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Heritage Hill State Historical Park has preserved local history for 49 years with 27 buildings on 50 acres and welcomes over 10,000 visitors each season from May to Oct. The park gives students a chance to learn about the past while showing Green Bay’s heritage (a reminder from our roots).  WBAY
  • Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and the Wisconsin Society Sons of the American Revolution dedicated a Liberty Tree with a plaque at Pamperin Park on Wednesday to mark America’s 250th birthday. The plaque explains the tree’s historic role in rallying colonial resistance (originally in Boston) against British rule.  FOX 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Green Bay City Council approved a permit for Safe Haven Hope Center to operate a downtown homeless shelter on May 20. The permit requires a six-month review (including police coordination on disposing of drugs) and maintains set occupancy limits.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
  • Wrightstown residents voiced worries about a proposed AI data center during a Tuesday public session at the municipal office; the village said no formal plan exists and more discussions are scheduled for May 26 and May 31 (residents seek more transparency).  WNCY
  • Tuesday night, the Common Council approved a conditional use permit for Safe Haven Hope Center at 315 South Jefferson Street, a transitional shelter for those facing housing barriers. The permit sets six conditions which include occupancy limits and safety reviews (two alders opposed) and replaces a temporary permit set to expire June 30.  94.3 Jack FM
