COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ New Leaf Foods is hosting a free sustainable gardening series at the Seymour Park Food Forest in Green Bay starting with a workshop on edible perennials led by Dillion Weist on Sunday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m.—the series will run through September. The program aims to provide hands-on guidance for local gardeners. WBAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Since 2020, most Green Bay area school districts have exceeded the state average 91.1% four-year graduation rate while the Green Bay district has lagged at 87.6%. One graduating class in Wrightstown achieved a 100% rate in 2023 — and seven-year completion rates remain strong across the region. Green Bay Press-Gazette
- ➤ Green Bay high school students built a new home on May 14 as part of the Bridges Construction & Renovation program, where they gained construction skills, high school and college credit, and prepared for apprenticeships. Next school year, the program will build two more homes with students from several local high schools. FOX 11
- ➤ UW-Green Bay finals week has seen students both study and celebrate as the All-American Rejects played a pop-up concert on May 14 and the campus Phoenix moved at 8 a.m. today to a new perch before a building is constructed. Upcoming events include a Rising Phoenix celebration for high school graduates tonight and a nursing pinning ceremony on May 16 with state leaders set to speak — marking key milestones for the school community. - ➤ High school seniors across Green Bay and Brown County will graduate in ceremonies from May 22 to June 8, with events scheduled at local schools such as those at the Kress Center and school fields. Some schools require tickets or check-ins while others do not. Green Bay Press-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Green Bay’s City Council is expected to review a funding recommendation of $809,000 for two projects—$500,000 to help start construction on 41 supportive housing apartments at NEW Community Shelter and $309,000 to support an urban barn on former JBS land—that could advance these developments, although the shelter still needs an extra $500,000 before breaking ground. - ➤ City of Green Bay unveiled first renderings for a fire station and apartment complex at South Broadway and Arndt Street in the Shipyard District; the new project will combine a three-story fire station with 93 affordable apartment units and use funding including $3.5 million from ARPA funds. Developers plan to start construction before the end of the year — a second phase on South Maple Avenue is also in the works. WNCY

- ➤ Packers are rumored to open the season at home against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3:25 p.m.—head coach Matt LaFleur’s first home opener at Lambeau Field since 2018, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. Additional details include a Monday Night Football game against the Eagles on Nov. 10 at 7:15 p.m. and a Week 16 doubleheader game in Chicago on Dec. 20. WBAY
